Check out the main cinema releases of the second half of 2025

 
 

The expectation for the upcoming months in cinema is high with so many productions arriving on the big screens. Among them is Kleber Mendonça Filho’s new film, starring Wagner Moura, “The Secret Agent.” The film drew attention after receiving the awards for “Best Actor” and “Best Director” at the Cannes Film Festival. The semester is also marked by the return of well-known stories, such as the universe of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which enters a new chapter more than 20 years after the first massacre. Another awaited sequel is “A Wilder Friday the 13th” with the returns of Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as Anna and Tess Coleman. The main releases of the second half of 2025 in theaters: July Superman – 07/10 In the new film featuring the Kryptonian hero, Superman is trying to reconcile his alien roots with his upbringing as a human on Earth.

I Know What You Did Last Summer – 17/07 Some decades after the events of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” sequels, a group of young people make a similar mistake to the teenagers of the 1990s: they hide their responsibility for a fatal accident. Being chased by a killer with a hook, the group seeks out the survivors of the 1997 massacre.

Fantastic Four: First Steps – 07/24 The group of heroes must face the threat of Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, whose mission is to destroy Earth.

Materialistic Lovers – 07/31 Lucy, played by Dakota Johnson, works as a matchmaker in New York when she finds herself in a love triangle with her ex-boyfriend, John (Chris Evans), and a new wealthy suitor, Harry (Pedro Pascal).

August The Hour of Evil – 08/07 A city in the countryside faces a gruesome event: all the children from a school class disappear on the same day and hour, except for one.

Another Crazy Friday – 07/08 Years after the events of “Freaky Friday,” Anna (Lindsay Lohan) and Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) face the challenges of a family merger, with Anna’s upcoming marriage and her preparation to become a stepmother.

The Last Blue – 08/28 In a dystopian Brazil, Tereza, a 77-year-old woman, embarks on a journey along the Amazon rivers to fulfill a dream before being taken to a housing colony. The film features Rodrigo Santoro in its cast.

September The Conjuring: The Devil’s Last Ritual – 09/04 The production is based on the true story of the Smurl family, who claimed to have been haunted by an entity from 1973 to 1989. Then, investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren embark on their final mission.

A Battle After Another – 09/25 With Leonardo DiCaprio in the cast, the plot follows a group of former revolutionaries who are forced to reunite to rescue the daughter of one of the members, kidnapped by an old enemy.

October Maurício de Souza: The Movie  – 10/23 The film starring Mauro Souza retells the life story of Maurício de Souza, his father and Brazil’s most famous comic book artist, creator of the “Turma da Mônica” (Monica’s Gang).

Roofman – 16/10 “Roofman” talks about Jeffrey Manchester’s prison escape, a criminal known as the ‘roof thief’. Based on the true story of the robber with the same name.

November The Secret Agent – 06/11 Set in Recife in the 1970s, Marcelo (Wagner Moura) flees to the Pernambuco capital seeking to leave his past behind, a plan that slips out of his control as soon as he arrives in the city.

“Wicked: For Good” – 11/20 Part 2 of the musical production that premiered in 2024 brings the conclusion of the story of Glinda, who became the “Good Witch of the North,” and Elphaba, “The Wicked Witch of the West,” who join forces to save Oz from the lies of the Wizard of Oz.

December Avatar: Fire and Ashes – 12/18 In the third film of James Cameron’s franchise, the story follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and their family on Pandora, who must confront the Na’vi tribe, known for its violence and thirst for power, led by Varang (Oona Chaplin).
