What a Better World!
Premieres this Monday (30) with the mission to repeat the success of Êta Mundo Bom! (2016).
Written by Walcyr Carrasco
And Mauro Wilson, the new six o’clock novela, brings back beloved characters, such as the protagonist Candinho (Sergio Guizé), in a story full of humor.
But what can the audience expect from the new plot? The author Mauro Wilson answers. He explains that the new story maintains the DNA of the previous one but expands its scope.
“It’s a good-hearted, extremely optimistic and positive novel. Besides, it has a lot of comedy—and since I come from comedy, that’s an extra gift for me,” says the writer.
The rustic character, who won over Brazil in 2016, remains the guiding thread of the new phase of the plot. For Wilson, Candinho represents the ideal type of friend.
Candinho is wonderful. He’s like that credit card you never leave home without. He has purity, but also a naive, childlike cleverness. He reminds me a lot of Didi, from Renato Aragão. He’s extremely charming.
Sergio Guizé returns to the role that marked his career, now experiencing new adventures with both old and new characters. For Mauro Wilson, the main strength of Êta Mundo Melhor! lies in its theme of searching: “It’s the search for a son, a father, true love, becoming rich, fulfilling a dream. All the characters are after something. Even if much of it is just a dream.”
The author states that the plot has a fast-paced rhythm, with scenes that push the story forward and characters in constant motion. Set at the end of the 1940s and also in the 1950s, Êta Mundo Melhor! offers a break from the chaos of the modern world and invites the audience to dive into a universe where “it’s worth being good.”
“This humanity that the novel possesses is immense. It’s a positive universe where human values are important. That attracted me greatly,” says Wilson, who also shares how he reacted to the invitation:
I really loved getting to tell a story set in a time without cell phones, where the characters actually meet in person. It’s a sweet, very friendly telenovela. I believe this will bring in a lot of people to follow along.
Candinho’s return also brings slapstick humor, with absurd situations and caricatural characters typical of Walcyr Carrasco’s soap operas. The author wrote the first 30 chapters with Wilson, but left the plot development in his partner’s hands. He is now working on other projects at Globo.
Among the novelties, the most unique is the orphanage nucleus, Casa dos Anjos, featuring children who promise to captivate the audience. They will sing, showcasing this musical side. In total, five songs are planned to be released throughout the soap opera, performed by the young actor voices.
